About

Great, you reached my About-Page.

My name ist Alex, but I have a few nicknames on the Internet, the most famous probably being “Looza”. I have that name for over a decade now and if you wonder how someone can pick such a name, it was a very conscious decision. I did pick this name because I believe in the idea of understatement.  I am also known as “Nipheon”, a name coming from a nickname-generating program after I couldn’t register as “Looza” on a number of websites.

I am doing music and graphics for about 14 years now.
It started in 1990 when I got a C64 from a friend, after a few weeks of gaming I started music and graphics, which opened a totally new world for me. I was a part of the C64 Demoscene for few years, 1995 I bought a PC and moved on to the PC Demoscene.

I was a full member of tokyodawnrecords for a few years, I had vinyl releases on tokyodawnrecords, dephazz records, m3rck and more, I wrote music for a local filmfestival and produced samples for a few sample-CDs. Also my track “Linking Worlds” got pressed as whitelabel in England in the late ’90s, of course without my permission. I also have a sign over my doorbell saying “funkycastle records” (thats the english translation for the street I am living in, Funkenburgstraße) but it has no meaning yet.

In graphics I mainly did smaller works for some local advertisement companies, including layout and graphic design as well as exhibition planning.

When I started using computers I also did a few projects in coding, languages included BASIC, TurboPascal and Z80-Assembler (KC85 and C64), but I stopped coding a few years ago because I rather concentrated on music and graphics.

I am a movie junkie, I love 60s sci-fi movies in grayscale and popcorn-movies in general, like most action-stuff made in hollywood.

I skateboarded for quite a few years but stopped three years ago due to a major fraction in my left foot (after doing a a simple 180 down a curb … real bad luck) which made me lay in bed for over four months, after that I had to realize that I basically cant risk getting injured, due to my daughter and general well-being.

I collect records (mainly from the former communist european countries) but don’t pay more than one euro for each one, that way I got some quite obscure rarities in my collection of 800+ records.

My general interest in music is not style- but time based, I am totally hooked to 70s jazz, funk and disco, mainly because to the fact that back then they assembled all musicians in a studio and recorded all the music in one take, opposing to today’s music which is based around “tweak and redo until its right”.
